Feriado!
Feriado means holiday, day off, etc. that's what today is! yay! no school!
Here's what i did this week....
monday anne-lise came over and we worked on our portuguese project. quite difficult--it was on a character in a play I haven't read because it's too difficult. but I think it turned out ok....
tuesday I had a history test. with book and notes, which was very good, but I didn't really have enough time. I think it went ok, though. it was funny at one point in the middle the teacher left for about thirty seconds to go do something, and everyone started talking about answers and asking questions....then totally quiet when the teacher came back in. I think cheating is less looked down upon here.
After school I had a talk with catarina. my host family wants me to help them learn english by having a dinner once a week where we speak english. anytime this was mentioned, I would say: but I don't want to speak english! Catarina helped put things in perspective for me (and the people from the online exchange student discussion board helped too)...she said that I talked all day at school in english with the other exchangers, and then refuse to speak english at home just for dinner. I insist on full immersion, but then speak english with exchanger friends. adn that my host family has been helping me whenever I need it, and they wanted me to help them, too. I realized that in this case, i was wrong. It was really hard accepting this, being kind a perfectionist. i started crying when catarina was talking to me, which was quite awkward. I do need to give a little bit more back to my host family. so now in school I just speak portuguese with the other exchagners, and I'll accept english dinners with happiness as a way to share my culture and give something back to my host family.
Wednesday I didn't do much. in geography we colored maps, which is always fun.
Thursday I came home after school and posted pictures! finally! so you can see agueda (town up north), my birthday, thanksgiving pies, etc.
went to dance for a half and hour, then had to come home to eat dinner at 8 (early!) to go see 007: Casino Royale at 9. It was good--I liked it.
Today I don't know what I'll do. I might go out to a disco tonight (gasp!) because although i don't like it, I'm going to try again. getting used to being social is a good thing to learn.
Ok well now it's breakfast time!
Adeus!
