Sem titulo
well I thought I'd call this post "without a title" because I can't think of one right now... I'm not very creative these days.
Last week was kind of annoying. I had a little of that normal difficulty getting back into the waking up early schedule. It's really dark when I wake up now, which doesn't help. but it's ok. I should be thankful because I do get to wake up a half an hour later than in the US.
Thursday I did come home and take a nap after school, which I'd decided to do that morning. I was tired. This week should hopefully be a bit better.
Friday I went to a café with Anne-Lise and Debora. We felt quite portuguese and it was fun. Did a bit of shopping, then went home. That night I went to the band practice, which was ok. I got music and a uniform and was invited to play in a concert the next day. yikes!
So then saturday I put on the uniform which is even crazier than those of CCHS (a tie and jacket and hat and everything) and played clarinet for about 5 hours (with breaks of course). We walked around the area and played which was incredibly difficult acutally. It's so hard to read the music while walking! I played prettily horribly but oh well. Then we went and played at a basketball game, which was interesting too.
I'm hoping I'll be able to make friends in the band... it's just hard because it only practices once a week and not everyone's there and it's mixed ages--doesn't have the same sense of community as the bands at home (I miss the cozy band room back home!). But it is good to play clarinet.
Then I came home for about 15 minutes and left again for Lisa's birthday party. We went to a restaurant that was a bit loud but nice: us AFSers (Lisa, Anne-Lise, Liz, and me) and some of Lisa's classmates. Afterwards we got ice cream and then went to a bar. All in all it was fun--I'm getting more used to the elevated amounts of drinking, smoking, and partying/dancing I'm exposed to here. The bar was also a bit calmer than a discoteca (if you could say calm) so it was good.
Got home at around three, and ended up going online and going to sleep at 4h30. I've forgotten what my normal weekend bedtime in the US is; it's so late here in Portugal!
Woke up at noon on Sunday and went to a host family lunch. It was full of lots of people, most who I didn't know. And didn't really try to get to know everyone; it would be quite hard. But it was a good lunch; lots of good doces (sweets) afterwards.
Got home and did a bit of homework; I have to go do some more now (write a bit about a portuguese play) which sadly I'm procrastinating on like crazy. It's nice to not have so much work though.
I finished the 2nd Harry Potter (portuguese) today and will hopefully start the 1st. They're actually not very hard to read, which is cool.
On a random note, I received a package today sent from home November 24th. Judging by the stamp on it, it was sent to Asunción, Paraguay! Do people really not know where Portugal is? hehe.
Today in english class we watched super size me which is quite interesting. Scary too. Now we're studying nutrition and things; it's kind of funny. In History we're studying the American Revolution which is interesting too. In geography we're learning about cities, which is interesting. I'm supposedly going to do a project on American cities sometime soon--eek I don't know much about cities! I'm not really a city girl! we'll see.
Well hugs to all!
ps. Today is my 4th month anniversary here. That's so crazy! I think these next 6 months are going to fly by....
