Uma metade (one half)!
So Friday (feb. 2 aka groundhog day) was my half-stay anniversary. I can't believe it. Não consigo acreditar. Sometimes I feel like I won't be fully adapted at the end of these five months. I have a feeling it's going to go by depressa.... (fast!)
So last Saturday I went with Anne-Lise and Lisa to the old part of Lisbon to see the Castelo São Jorge, which I'd already been to. We rode lots of public transportation, including a very crowded tram. When we got to the ticket place at the castle, Anne-Lise couldn't find her wallet. We realized someone must have stolen it on the tram. So then we ran around to three police stations (the first one directed us to the second which directed us to the third), where we spent a good amount of time talking to the police officer, explaining the situation, etc. It was quite interesting. Afterwards we had lunch, then were too tired to go to the castle, so we went back to my house and watched the O.C.
Sunday morning I slept late, and then heard from Joana that it had snowed that morning in Lisbon! I don't think it snowed in my area, but wow! that's crazy! It did feel like winter...
I studied, then we had dinner with MIguel's family, which is becoming something we do every sunday. Today it'll be in our house.
This week I didn't do much. Studied for the Portuguese and Geography tests I had thursday and friday, which, despite the fact that i could use the book and my notes, were quite hard. Oh well.
Miguel was in Paris the whole week and Xuxu went Tuesday and Wednesday. I find it cool being so close to all the rest of europe! I go to Italy in two weeks...wow!
Friday I went to practice with the band. There were only 12 people there, but that was ok. I was one of two clarinets--I could hear myself well, which was good .
Yesterday Liz came over to celebrate the first day of the second half of our stay in Portugal. We had lunch and watched more Friends, hehe. Then I went to the house of a classmate from school, named Marisa. Ate dinner there (bacalhau=cod--we eat a lot of it here. good thing I like it!), then went to watch her dance class (I had expressed interest in it, so she invited me to come watch). It was folclore--traditional portuguese dancing. Pretty cool. I got to try a dance which was actually quite difficult, but fun.
Now that conversation in Portuguese isn't that difficult, I'm working on grammar, which is difficult. Things like you can say: Eu dou um presente ao João (I give a present to João). Eu dou-lhe um presente (I give him a present). Eu dou-a ao João (I give it to João). Eu dou-lha (I give it to him). It's quite difficult, but kind of cool. having words like I will wash it is lavá-lo-ei. hehe.
Well I hope everything is going well back home. Do you know if the groundhog saw his shadow?

1 Comments:
Well it was cloudy here Friday, so I don't know if the groundhog saw his shadow...but it did snow Friday night and it's been below freezing ever since, so perhaps that tells us something.
The Portuguese dancing sounds cool! Can you go again and maybe learn some?
Good luck with the grammar--it is hard but logical, and it's fun to learn those different structures. xxx
